Newsletter Spring 2004 Travelling Theatre
Proteus
Travelling Theatre visited the village on Wed 3rd December 2003 with
their production of “The extraordinary tale of Colonel Cody Wild West Showman
& Hero of the Skies”. This was a
very enjoyable evening with an energetic cast. We would like to have a visit from Proteus
or Forest Forge Travelling Theatre in May. Christmas Concert A number of
members took part in a Christmas Concert with The Ashley Ladies on 14th
December. There were a selection of
readings, sacred and secular. Panto 2004
The Pantomime
was a great success. During the four performances
over 400 people came to see the show.
We did four performances for the first time – re‑instating a
Thursday evening performance. The
Thursday performance attracted around 50 people, which made it
worthwhile. There were many memorable
moments such as the Beast abseiling out of the loft, the spider bouncing
against the gates and the wreckage of the Pirate ship emerging from the
fog. The panto is a major undertaking
which would not be successful without the effort of a large number of people,
many of whom are not members of the Players and we are very grateful to them
for their time and support. Martin Coward made a video of the performance
and copies are available for £12, money to Chris Hall. If you still have any items of costumes please
could you return them to Sue Spurling so they can be put away. If you have one of the scripts please also
return it at the AGM - unless you wish to keep it, in which case there is a
charge of £5. If you have any photos of the production please
could you bring them along to the start up meeting on 31st March
to share with everyone. Autumn Production There will be a
start-up meeting on Wednesday 31st March at 7:45pm at the Epworth
Hall for everyone who would like to be involved in the Autumn Play. The play will be directed by Sue Spurling
and Rebecca Rickard who are currently selecting a suitable script. This is likely to be a comedy or murder
mystery. The production will take
place on October 8th & 9th. AGM The AGM will
take place at 7:45pm on Thursday May 13th in the Epworth
Hall. Details, including a nomination form for the committee, are
attached. Everyone is welcome to
attend the meeting but only members are eligible to vote. Subscriptions are due at the AGM for the
coming year, £5 for adults and £2.50 for those who are still in full time
education. Monthly Meetings There will be a
Shakespeare play reading evening on Wednesday 28th April and a
poetry evening on Wednesday 16th June. Both these events will be at 7:45pm in the
Epworth Hall. Open Air Production Visit Some of the
